Academic Excellence
The school curriculum offers abroad and exciting education. our pupils achieve excellent academic standards and almost all proceed to university. Boys are encouraged to think independently, to ask questions, to use modern technology as a tool for learning and to enjoy their subjects. Staff-pupil relationships are based on mutual respect - success is achieved through this partnership. Reports and grade assessments are regularly sent to parents who are encouraged to become involved with the school.
In Years 7 to 9 boys follow the national curriculum. Sciences are taught as three separate subjects and all boys study Design Technology and ICT along with English and Mathematics. Languages taught are French and German. Art, Geography, History, Religious Studies and Music are also taken. Sport is an important part of school life and PE and Games lessons take place in each year group.
In Year 10, boys start their ten GCSE courses and are able to select certain options. Parents and pupils are fully involved in these discussions to determine the best choice for each boy. New subjects such as Business Studies and Engineering are available and several discrete courses within Design Technology may be studied. Subject-based activities such as field trips help to enrich their studies.
In the Sixth Form (Years 12/13) an extensive range of courses is offered to AS and A level. Students will develop independent learning skills and experience a range of teaching styles to prepare them for university and employment.
A full programme of Personal, Social and Health Education is delivered across the curriculum by staff with expertise in this area. Discussion is encouraged and these lessons contribute towards creating the positive ethos which exists within the school. Throughout the curriculum, in Assembly, in our daily contact with each other we emphasise moral and spiritual values - we have a strong sense of working together to achieve our best as individuals and as a community.
