Welcome
A big welcome to all year 6 students visiting the school for the art and algebra workshop held on December 5th and 6th. During the two days they will be investigating some of the mathematics behind the art work of Alexander Calder before having the chance to create their own pieces of art.

U16 County Cup Winners!

JHGS to represent Bucks
The eagerly anticipated U16 County cup final was played on Thursday at Fairford Leys in Aylesbury. Bright sunshine greeted the players as a strong JHGS team attempted to earn qualification to the English Schools cup. A bright start for the opposition led to Ben Elliot displaying his goalkeeping skills and in truth JHGS could have been two nil down in the first ten minutes. However, as the midfield of Songhurst, Perring and Jansons began to take hold of the game a right sided corner allowed Luke Hamilton to rise above the defence and head into the top left corner. St Pauls equalised with a goalmouth scramble and JHGS were all set to go into half time level. With minutes to go Matty Thomas broke down the left hand side for Nathan Sharpe to slot home. There were still strong words at half time from coach Steve Vanstone and this appeared to do the trick as JHGS began to dominate play. Superior fitness levels allowed the strong willed Pryor and James to contain the opposition and shift the ball to the increasingly effective Livesey and Goodchild. Unbelievably there were no further goals in the game and the 2-1 scoreline allows JHGS to represent bucks in the u16 national cup.

Mathematical Success for Alan Salih

Further national recognition
Alan, who is in year 13, was one of only five students recognised by the Mathematical Association for having completed correct solutions to their recent competition. Further success for Alan was received in school today as he has been invited to enter the British Mathematics Olympiad, an honour reserved for only the best mathematicians nationally.

Letter to parents regarding the fire

November 21st 2007
A localised fire in the design area caused some disruption to school this morning. A copy of the letter sent home to parents this afternoon can be downloaded from the 'all newletters and correspondence' section of this website.

Nick Catlin selected for England

National Mens Indoor Squad
Nick Catlin, who left JHGS last year, has been selected as part of the squad to represent England in indoor hockey. Nick, who plays for Reading Hockey Club, has previously represented his country at under 21 level but this is the first time he has been given his chance to win his senior cap.

European Kickboxing Championships

Raja makes the quarter finals
Raja Chiripal, year 11, represented the UK in the recent European Kickboxing Championships held in Portugal. He reached the quarter finals before succumbing to food poisoning. However there is no evidence to suggest that this was sabotage! Raja is the winner of this year’s Sir Steven Redgrave bursary award. He gained his black belt in 2005 and is currently ranked second in Great Britain.

UKMT Mathematics Team Challenge

A good performance against strong opposition
The team representing the school, made up of Liangji Qian, David Wigram, Alan Salih and Monty West, equipped themselves very well coming in the top five (out of over 20 state and independent schools) in the regional round. They entered the final round in a position to take the top spot but after a few uncharacteristic errors they ended up being beaten by Royal Latin.

Excellent Sports Results

An excellent week for JHGS!
An excellent week for JHGS sport has seen a number of sides qualify for the latter stages of county and national competitions. The year 9 and year 7 football teams have both won through to the fourth round of the English schools cup with 3-0 and 3-2 scorelines. The year 10 rugby team fought bravely to secure a 12-5 win over Licensed Victualler School and they are now in the third round draw of the Daily Mail Vase. However, the most significant result was recorded by the 1st XI football team away to Denbigh. A 4-1 victory sees JHGS top their group and secure a home time in the quarter finals. A man of the match performance from Alex Morris (U6A) ended with a 25 yard chip that put pay to Denbigh's resistance. Congratulations to the boys and their coaches Mr Vanstone and Mr Boult.

6th Form Open Evening
