General Information
The Product Design course will broadly suit those students who have achieved success at GCSE in Resistant Materials, Industrial Technology, Electronic Products and Graphic Products. This specification does not include Electronics, Systems or Control, the emphasis being upon materials, processes and manufacturing. | Recommended Resources

Keystage 3:This course is available at AS/A Level. See Design (KS3) for more information on Design Technology.
Keystage 4:Pupils will be provided with opportunities to study and to have practical experience of wood, metal and plastics and a range of appropriate processes. They will be expected to use the design process competently and be able to specify tools, processes and materials appropriate for the requirements of their designs.
Keystage 5/AS/A2:The subject content is identified in two sections:
Designing and Making
Knowledge and Understanding
In Designing and Making, students are encouraged to identify needs, write their own brief, develop ideas, optimise solutions, plan making and manufacture products. Students are encouraged to communicate their patterns of thinking through freehand graphics and ICT.
In Knowledge and Understanding, students study materials, manufacturing processes, energy, ergonomics, aesthetic awareness, the environment and marketing.
