Canada
Vancouver is located in the South-West corner of Canada, and was named after Captain George Vancouver, a British explorer. It is the largest metropolitan area in Western Canada and the third largest in the country. It was first settled in 1860s as a result of the Fraser Canyon Gold Rush in the area.

Canada is the second largest country in the world after Russia including its waters, by land, it in fourth place. It has the longest coastline in the world at 243,000 km. The temperature in Canada varies by location, but can range from -15 degrees C up to 30 degrees. It has been chosen to co-host the Winter Olympics in 2010. It is exploring a joint bid for Vancouver and Seattle to host the 2028 Summer Olympics.

Vancouver is known for its scenery and has one of the largest urban parks, Stanley Park. It is 1,000 acres and borders downtown Vancouver. It attracts over 8 million visitors per year. Much of the park remains forested with an estimated half a million trees that can be as tall as 76m.
